The automation of robotic processes is a growing trend in the field of artificial intelligence, made possible by software that automates rule-based actions performed on a computer. The idea is that robots perform dull, boring, repetitive tasks so that people are not in charge of collecting data but of using it.
It is a field with so much potential that there are many applications for robotic process automation and it is being developed in many fields and businesses. In fact, the list of tasks that can be automated is almost endless and, with today’s technology, includes uses such as awarding loans, extracting files from emails, moving objects from one place to another, among many others…
It is true that this boom will entail job losses, an increasingly obvious concern, but it will also allow workers to focus on more important and more thought-provoking tasks. In addition, it is expected that it will help eliminate human errors, especially when it comes to sensitive data, and reduce the risk of accidents at work.
On the other hand, in the banking sector, tasks such as opening accounts or evaluating mortgage applications can be automated; insurance companies can automate injury files and onboarding of new agents or clients; and the transportation industry can avoid data errors that delay shipments. Ultimately, any job or business where there are tedious manual processes should benefit from automation.
This, naturally, leads us to the imminent proliferation of humanoid robots, since their training will be very similar to that of those people who perform repetitive and predictable work.
The software of the robots allows them to be trained to understand what they see on the screen -thanks to cameras-, identify and extract data and carry out a series of well-defined actions. In a way, the same thing a human being would do, but supposedly without the possibility of errors.
If technology continues to evolve at the same pace, it is very possible that robotic process automation will succeed in emulating human thinking and its ability to process information, which will be especially useful for companies whose tasks require a certain level of intelligence. Not by chance, Tesla has just announced the development of a humanoid robot that will use this same technology.
