A long time ago mobile phones replaced computers in most tasks and since then, the number of users who navigate with their Smartphone has increased considerably. In Spain, the mobile phone is the main device through which the internet is accessed and around 90% of people use it to do so. The use of computers only has a range of 55%, while tablets reach 34%. Therefore, if the majority of people browse using mobile, web pages should also be adapted to the format of this device.
Responsive design is the discipline that adapts web pages to the various devices that people use to navigate. Tus Ideas, a marketing agency with more than 15 years of experience, has been able to observe this change over the years and the great importance of adaptive design. “Responsive design is essential to reach all users and if the content is not adapted to the mobile format, it is very likely that there will be a higher bounce rate. Offering a positive user experience reduces the possibility of users abandoning the page by up to 53%”, explains Tus Ideas.
Thanks to responsive design, the same web page can reach all users, regardless of the device they are using to browse. In this way, companies will not need to create alternative pages for each format, but a single adaptable version will suffice. Companies that do not have a responsive design for all formats risk being penalized by Google, since there will be no duplicate content. When a company creates several web pages for all formats, with the same content, it is very likely that these websites will be penalized by Google for duplicity.
However, the main advantage of responsive design is that by having a lower bounce rate (less abandonment due to non-adapted content) companies will have more traffic and more reach. This advantage also favors Google’s algorithms, which values that a website is more accessible and is something that it takes into account when positioning the website. Another great advantage of responsive websites is that they usually achieve the objectives of online marketing campaigns better. Thanks to the use of mobile devices, websites can receive more information about the interests of users.
